Small Room Big Space at Sterten Place

I attended a seminar about space saving ideas entitled "Small Room. Big Space." at Sterten Place Condominium, Maginhawa St., Quezon City. It was organized by SPCC Continuing Education Committee. The speakers were interior designer Jorge C. Burlat, Lynell Sta. Ines and Vargas Vargas III.   I found it inspiring when they talked about maximizing space and exploring hidden spaces.  I also learned practical ways of storing my things with the little space I have at home.

Space Saving Tips they shared:

1. Conquer Clutter
"more organized, more peace of mind"

2. Be Conservative with Color
Light colors- to make space look bigger
Dark colors- to make space look smaller, more intimate

3. Embrace Natural Light

4. Choose Furniture and Storage
Use stackable storage,  furniture- modern, lightweight, visually unobtrusive

5. Revive Dead Space
Find ways to make spaces usable.

6. Use Mirrors
Mirrors reflect light.

7. Create Clean Lines

8. Arrange Accessories by Size or Order
Don't fill all spaces.  Negative or empty spaces give a feeling that it's spacious

9. Don't Rely on Overhead Lighting

10. See Stripes
Stripes could create illusion that room is longer.  Use stripes sparingly.

Other points they raised:

1) "The way we perceive space affects our physiology" - Vargas Vargas III
We always have to keep our spaces clean and organized.

2) "Think minimally"- Jorge C. Burlat
Don't buy things just because they're on sale.  If they're unnecessary to you, don't buy them.
They would only create clutter in your home.

Speakers and organizers of this event are unit owners at Sterten Place (an interesting fact!)
