Cotswold Instameets Cheltenham

  •  I joined the Cotswold Summer Instameets Cheltenham on July 17.

  • Meet up place was the Bicycle Hub near the train station where we were given free bike rental and helmet for the day. The bike I was assigned to I felt was big for me, so I asked for a smaller one. I was then given their "smallest" bike.

  • There was an orientation about what would happen during the day, bike trail and a little information about Cheltenham Spa. I also heard something said about Cheltenham being more important than Gloucester--but really there should be no comparison for they're both equally important. I'd say Gloucester is even more deeply rooted in history.

  • Anyway around the time the talk started, I should have checked my bike, if I could control it easily and if the brake was working properly.

  • When we all got into our bikes, it was a bit late to check my gear. I've gotten into my bike and yes it was still a bit big for me. I should have familiarized myself with the bike first before we started as I haven't biked in a while.

  • We all started peddling up towards the road and I was one of the first three bikers. I did well at first. Then we stopped at a path, waited for the other bikers. Then they all showed up and we started on our trail again. There was this path going downhill that I lost control of my bike.

  • It was going too fast and as much as I tried to break, it didn't stop at all. I veered towards the right and fell on a bush of thorns. I had some scratches. But I'm lucky to be alive. Some nice stranger took my hand and lifted me off the ground.

  • I didn't continue with the tour anymore. It seemed like fun. I should have taken time to familiarize myself with my rented bike and insisted on a smaller bike than their "smallest" bike. They had children's bikes after all.

  • I also think that Bicycle Hub should clean up their toilet. But that's another story.

  • I like that they do these events to promote @visitcheltenham@the_cotswolds @compassholidays I'd like to join the next one. Hopefully it's on foot, by bus or a van---and that I could complete it next time.
