Great Convergence book talk by Kishore Mahbubani at ADB

I was fortunate to attend a book talk "The Great Convergence: Asia, the West and the Logic of One World" by Kishore Mahbubani.  Currently, he is the Dean of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.  This event was held at Asian Development Bank, Manila, on October 6.

Here are some words by Dean Kishore Mahbubani during the talk:

(His catchy opening statement:)  "Deciding how to start (a talk) in the US is with a joke, in Asia you begin with apology.  So I begin with a bad joke."

"World has never been in a better place, never been more peaceful than today.  Violence is diminishing century by century."

"We have a lot to celebrate today.  But we have challenges that make us on the same boat: Financial Crisis, Global Warming and Pandemics"

"Humanity is caught together in a common boat.  We have to fix the planet together.  All it takes is one switch in policy."

"Countries don't have permanent friends, enemies, but permanent interests.  Interests change over time."

"Now it's in vested interest to work together with the world, to strengthen global institutions."

"People have more trust in non government organizations.... Universities, schools than corporations.  Work with organizations with high trust."
