Book Launch: "The Murder in Desert Inn" by Virginia Close

I got invited to a book launch of "The Murder in Desert Inn" at Book and Borders Cafe in Tomas Morato. I met Virginia Close, the author, and she had many interesting things to say about writing and her recently published book.

Here's what she had to say about writer's block:
"As of the moment I don't have it. Probably because I'm so inspired. Even now, you attended this, despite of APEC traffic you're here with me. That gives me the most inspiration. I had that writer's block when I was young. It's the lack of experience. When you try to push yourself to the limit, that you haven't experienced (writer's block happens). I write from my heart. Some people rely on technique of outline, but I don't. Once I stick to it (outline), I can't go out of my realm. You have to be able to get out of your skill."

Her protagonist in the story is inspired by Filipinos abroad
"Nelly's a very strong woman; a combination, conglomeration of Filipinos I've met along the way, in different countries. Although they're working for someone, they're still every intelligent. They're doctors, nurses, lawyers, etc."
